Those of you that woke up on New Year’s Day in Los Angeles, might have already caught a little change on one of California’s most recognizable landmarks. The iconic Hollywood sign in the Hollywood hills was turned into a big endorsement for 420. The Hollywood sign now pays homage to a new California law making recreational marijuana legal. It was transformed into “Hollyweed” and was apparently the work of a prankster. Of course social media users quickly caught the surprise and it is now all over the Internet already. See some shots here below.

Woke up this morning to shoot sunrise only to see the new #HOLLYWEED sign 😂. Btw HAPPY NEW YEAR GUYS 🎉. #conquer_la #2017

If you take a closer look, no letters were exchanged, but rather just altered by covering up parts of the two “o’s” on the Hollywood sign.

Happy new year! hollyweed 2017 this year. #hollyweed

A fun fact is that someone pulled the same stunt on January 1, 1976. It looks like now we are a lot closer to the weed legalization than back then though.
